Gentle support for healing, regulation and pain relief
Your body is not broken.
It’s adaptive, responsive and designed to heal—especially when given the right conditions.
Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is a gentle, non-invasive therapy we use at Bluebird Manual Therapy to support the body’s natural healing processes. FSM works quietly and deeply, helping calm irritated tissues, reduce inflammation and support recovery at the cellular level.
Most clients feel little to nothing during treatment—and yet often notice meaningful shifts afterward.
What Is FSM?
FSM uses very low-level electrical current—similar to the natural electrical signals already present in your body—combined with carefully selected frequency pairs. These frequencies are chosen to support specific tissues (such as nerves, fascia or muscles) and specific processes (such as inflammation, irritation or scar tissue).
The goal is not to override your body, but to create an environment where healing is easier.
FSM is painless, subtle and well-tolerated—even for people who are sensitive to other therapies.
How FSM Supports Healing
FSM works on two levels:
Microcurrent
Microcurrent has been shown in research settings to support cellular energy (ATP production), which plays a role in tissue repair and recovery.
Frequency Pairing
Two frequencies are delivered at the same time—one associated with a tissue type and one associated with a physiological process. While research into frequency-specific effects is ongoing, clinical experience suggests these combinations can help reduce pain, calm inflammation and support tissue normalization.
FSM does not force change. It supports your body’s own intelligence.
Conditions FSM May Help Support
- FSM is often helpful for clients experiencing:
- Chronic or acute pain
- Inflammation or swelling
- Nerve irritation or sensitivity
- Muscle tightness or myofascial pain
- Neck, shoulder, or low-back pain
- Headaches or migraines
- Tendon or ligament injuries
- Post-surgical or post-injury recovery
- Restricted movement from old injuries or scar tissue
FSM is not a cure or a replacement for medical care. It is one of the tools we use to support your body’s capacity to heal and regulate.
What a Session Feels Like
Most people experience FSM as deeply relaxing.
You may notice:
- Warmth or softening in the tissues
- A sense of calm or grounding
- Decreased pain or tension
- Improved movement
Some people feel nothing during treatment—and still notice changes afterward. Because the current is extremely gentle, the absence of sensation does not mean the absence of effect.
How FSM Is Used at Bluebird
At Bluebird Manual Therapy, FSM is never a standalone “one-size-fits-all” treatment.
We use FSM:
- As part of a thoughtful, individualized treatment plan
- In combination with hands-on manual therapy, movement and nervous-system regulation
- To support tissues that are irritated, inflamed or not responding well to force-based approaches
FSM is especially helpful when pain has been persistent or complex.
Safety and Comfort
FSM is considered a low-risk therapy when provided by a trained practitioner.
- The current is too low to damage tissue
- Most clients find it comfortable and calming
- Hydration is encouraged before and after sessions
FSM is not used during pregnancy due to lack of research and we carefully consider appropriateness for each individual.
Why Bluebird Manual Therapy Uses FSM
We believe healing happens best when the body feels safe, supported and listened to.
FSM allows us to:
- Work gently when tissues are reactive or overwhelmed
- Support healing without forcing change
- Address pain and inflammation while honoring your nervous system
It fits beautifully within our integrative, whole-person approach to care.
Curious If FSM Is Right for You?
If you’re dealing with ongoing pain, inflammation or recovery that hasn’t responded to other approaches, FSM may be a supportive next step.
